Hello,
Great website!
I'm looking for history of herbs used in medicine, healing, magic, obeah, etc, and general native plants and herbs of 17th century Jamaica. Plants used in bush teas and medicine preps.
Thanks much,
Della
Hi Della - sorry I've taken so long to reply. I can't tell you much offhand about plants and herbs used in 17thC Jamaica I'm afraid. In the first half of that century Jamaica was a Spanish colony, but after 1655 it was a British colony, and much more of the written history is from this period and onwards. The writings of Sir Hans Sloane may help you.
You may find other information in accounts of plantation life written during that period. Nearly all of this writing will be from a white perspective, which is likely to be limiting, but will still provide information.
